The Spoon House 2.3
by Julia Dvorin
The Spoon House 2.3 is an update and expansion of last year's The Spoon House 2.1 installation (it evolves each time it is installed). The core of the installation is still a 20'x10', 2-room structure where the "walls" and "roof" are made from approximately 5000 spoons arranged in free-hanging strands of spoons of various types. Two “spoondeliers” hang from the ceiling of the structure, and a variety of spoon-decorated furniture and "spoonstruments" inside both rooms welcomes visitors to sit, rest, contemplate, converse and play. An interactive journal and pens found inside the house provide prompts for reflection. Outside the house, there is an interactive spoon “mailbox” where people can leave and take positive messages and small gift items. New items for this year: a “reading corner” inside the house with a spoon-decorated chair, footstool, lamp, plants and bookshelf with Spoon Theory related books, and a garden "Spergola" with additional seating, spoon plants, spoondelier and lamp.
